The Art of Bienestar/Wellbeing

Lorena and Dali

Legend has it that when the artist, Salvador Dali, arrived in Mexico, he promptly left. Why? He reportedly said that he did not ‘want to be in a country that was more SURREAL than his Art”…

And that precisely describes the reason ARTE exists, why we are here and staying. Presenting to you what is interesting, ethereal, earthy, and surprising about a place we call Home.

I’ve lived and worked around the world, but Mexico has captured my heart, soul, and my imagination. My goal is to present to you compelling stories, photos and videos so you too can fall in love.

Introduction

I am an art enthusiast.  When I lived in East Africa I learned about a new way to appreciate ‘art‘.
Makonde wood carvings are extremely beautiful and I got hooked on them!  The tribe is found in southern Tanzania and in northern Mozambique.  Traditionally, the artists are farmers by day and carvers in their off season.  Many of them can be considered shamans because people seek them out when they have problems of one sort or another.  A ‘patient’ will show up at their door and relate their issue to the farmer.  The farmer then tells the person to return in a few days.  When the person returns, the farmer presents them with a carving.  They are instructed to attentively look at the piece three times per day and to turn it to a different position each time.   In following the ‘doctor’s orders’, their mind is not on their problem but on the art!  Artworks in mysterious ways.

We’re very pleased to announce the launch of a new brandMexXCHIC is our virtual in-house boutique offering products which capture the vibe and spirit of Mexico.  The Greek letter X x is used to represent the ‘chi‘ sound.  Chi to us means personal energy and ‘bienestar’ or wellbeing, which is the cornerstone of the work we do across the board. 💙
